Exclusive horn frames
Eyewear made from Horn
Let's start with the most important thing: horn glasses from Siefers are made from the horns of the water buffalo destined for the milk and meat industry. It is a by-product and therefore completely sustainable. In the wild, this bovine species lives in India and Thailand; the horn color depends on the country of origin.
The horns are rolled flat and pressed, after which rough, thin sheets are cut from them. From these plates, the frame and legs are milled into the appropriate shape. These may or may not be polished. For now, this is only done in the workshops of the manufacturers. Siefers sells buffalo horn frames from Hoffman, Cartier, Wollenweber and Maybach, among others, known worldwide as the best and leading brands working with this material. We also have the papers and skills to machine, polish, repair the horn ourselves and the right machines and skills to cut the lenses to fit your frame.
It is also possible to cut new lenses into an existing pair of horn frames, please take a look at our craft page.
Why choose a horn frame?
- Due to the naturally formed color shades in the material, no frame is the same, each pair of glasses is unique.
- Horn is rock hard. A metal reinforcement - which you see through the material with plastic, is not necessary with authentic horn frames.
- Horn is perfectly adjustable: one adjustment by one of our experts and your glasses will be right forever.
- Buffalo horn is lighter and more durable than plastic.
- the human body turns plastics white. Horn turns glassy or becomes matte, but this material is restored to its original condition with a simple polish. For maintenance of horn; grease and/or oil is desirable. We do also sell the right products to keep your frame conditioned.
In the store, we always have against 100 horned eyewear frames in stock.
You can also customize your own horn frames and choose your own plate. If you would like a completely personal horn frame designed for you, you should expect a delivery time of 8 to 10 weeks.
